Direct Insurance Group Plc Launches ‘Fleet Protector’ Collision and Journey Camera System. 

Direct Insurance Group Plc, today launched their new ‘Fleet Protector’ Collision and Journey Recorder system for its Fleet Insurance customers. 

The Fleet Protector Collision and Journey Recorder is a small video camera that sticks to the inside of the HGV’s windscreen and is powered from the vehicles auxiliary power supply. 

The Fleet Protector camera records the drivers eye view on to a Secure Digital (SD) memory card and has an inbuilt Gravity Sensor and GPS.

If the camera senses it has been involved in an accident due to its internal Gravity Sensor being activated, it will automatically save 30 seconds of video footage before the triggered event and 30 seconds after the event and prevent it from being overwritten. This video can then be downloaded from the device and review to see what ‘actually happened at the scene of the accident’. 

The system, widely used in the USA is part of Direct Insurance Group Plc’s commitment to constantly improve on it customer proposition and truly offer services that are innovative and unique. Trials using similar systems have seen fleet operators claims frequency dramatically reduce, thus reducing claims payments and the time taken to settle road traffic accidents. Further benefits have shown operators have benefited from improved fuel efficiency and driver behaviour. 

Use of the Fleet Protector product is currently being offered free of charge to all companies who operate a fleet of 8 or more HGV’s.
